Letter to our Sponsors

Dear Sponsor:

We are inviting you to participate in our 11th Annual Pennsylvania Statewide Latino Conference which will be held October 26th - 28th, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel in Trevose, PA (just north of Philadelphia).  This year’s theme, Nuestro Tiempo Es Ahora” Our Time is Nowfurther emphasizes PSLC’s commitment to our mission of serving as an alliance of Latino leaders, organizations, community activists, students, and individuals that serves as a statewide institutional catalyst for positive social change and political advancement.

PSLC’s 10th Annual Conference, held this past October in Harrisburg, was very successful making it the largest gathering of Latinos in Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley each year.  In keeping with our new organizational focus, during the conference we concentrated on developing a strong network of grassroots leadership and provided participants, including a large representation of college and high school students with tools for organizing and mobilizing our community around a common agenda.  We are extremely grateful to our host city Harrisburg and our partners in the Central Region who opened their doors to us this past year.

Throughout the year, we have continued to provide leadership and support to our membership and our strategic partners’ efforts to advocate for public policy to help improve the conditions of Latinos throughout the state.

This year we supported the:

  • National Association of Hispanic Nurses and the Licensure Endorsement Task Force in working with the Legislature, specifically Representative Curtis Thomas, Dwight Evans and Angel Cruz as well as members of Governor Rendell’s administration, in expanding the temporary licenses to two years for Puerto Rican and foreign trained nurses.  This effort seeks to increase the pool of nurses available to serve Pennsylvania residents.
  • Allentown Symphony who joined PSLC in hosting the 2nd Annual Three Kings Festival in the Lehigh Valley which was attended by over 200 community members.
  • Moreover, we continue to work with our Reading membership to insure compliance with our successful Federal Court legal victory with the Reading Police Department which has led to the appointment of a Latino recruitment officer, the establishment of Diversity Board with members of the Reading community and the hiring of a diversity consultant to provide the City of Reading with a comprehensive approach in diversifying their law enforcement efforts in the city.

PSLC is committed to continuing through our advocacy and when necessary through legislative or legal channels to address any disparity within the Latino community.  We believe the growth and empowerment of Latinos is important to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In order for PSLC and our 2006 conference to be successful, we again need your commitment to our mutual constituency and sponsorship support.  I have attached a list of various sponsorship opportunities and ask that your company assist us in making this year’s work and conference even more successful.  We are also enclosing a tentative schedule and some of our materials from last year’s conference and work for your review.

At the request of our membership we are reducing the price of our conference by 50% in order to accommodate grassroots leaders, community activist and civic organizations who want to be active members of the PSLC family.  This includes, at the request of our students, providing 100 scholarships for our high school students which will be distributed throughout each of our regions.

This commitment to maximizing our growing leadership’s participation makes it even more incumbent on us to receive maximum financial support from our corporate and organizational partners.  However, we still remain committed to working with our partners to create the best packages based on your individual corporate and organizational goals.

Among some of the attractions for this year are:

  • Kick Off Reception in Center City Philadelphia with our local leadership
  • Gubernatorial Panel Discussion with our Media Partners
  • Voting Rights Re-Authorization Panel and building bridges with our African American community.
  • A Report on the Immigration Debate
  • Education Panel led by our national partners
  • Economic Development priorities for immerging commercial development

PSLC intends to continue to make our conference, the largest mobilization effort in Pennsylvania and invite you to join us.

Please contact our Conference Coordinator, Mari Rivera if you have any questions. She can be reached at 215-425-PSLC (7752) /

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

Respectfully,

Benjamin Ramos, Jr.                                       Maria Quiñones-Sánchez
